WINERY SCHEIBLHOFER

It is located in Andau, in the district of Neusiedl am See, and with its 97 hectares of own land is one of the largest wineries in Burgenland. Known for the noble red wine "Big John", the winery was built up by Johann Scheiblhofer and taken over by son Erich Scheiblhofer in 2000.
Scheiblhofer is one of the pioneers in the field of sustainability and has been distinguished for years by its energy self-sufficient wine production. This is made possible by the photovoltaic system installed on the roofs of the farm buildings, which is the largest private photovoltaic system in Burgenland.

Situated in one of the most ideal wine locations in Austria and owning the most barrique barrels in the country, Scheiblhofer is also considered an important employer in the region.

Tasting note

The main part consists of Blaufränkisch grapes, which, like the Cabernet Sauvignon, come from the mineral-rich, barren sites of the Leithagebirge in Jois. The third grape partner is fully ripe Merlot, originating from the Andauer Prädium. On the day of harvest of each variety, the 5 musketeers scour the vineyard in search of fully to slightly overripe grape parts. These are cold macerated 4° Celsius and then fermented. New French barriques in "double-oak" manner give this monument the necessary framework.

COMPOSITION:
Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot

Further

Bâtonnage is the stirring of the lees during winemaking and thus a more than fitting label for a group of vinophile revolters that some may well suspiciously fear as agitators. Because the five winemakers bring movement into the Austrian wine scene and the name Batonnage whispers through the wine-interested public of Austria.

It all began at a legendary blind tasting of five friends Markus Altenburger, Florian Gayer, Gerhard Kracher, Erich Scheiblhofer and Christian Tschida in 2000, the night the "Club Batonnage" was launched. Detached from the often highly closed conventions of the wine world, these 5 musketeers of good taste approach the medium of wine with relaxed ease.
