Werner Achs is a young winemaker with an incredible amount of power. He presented his first wines with the 1999 harvest, whereby he attracted attention with a Chardonnay, as his red wines were aged in barrels until the beginning of 2001. That was his last white wine, he focused on red wine and here he takes an extremely minimalist approach. Zweigelt Goldberg and XUR are produced every year (and highly decorated by Falstaff every year) and Werner Achs Reserve is only bottled in exceptional years.

Cuvée of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and St. Laurent. Strong ruby garnet, violet reflections. In the nose fine noble wood touch, nuances of herbs, ripe black cherries, a touch of plums, delicate nougat and orange zest. On the palate, full-bodied, elegant, finesse-rich acidity, sweet cherries, silky tannins, chocolaty touch on the finish, mineral in the reverberation, very good length, polished and accessible, safe aging potential.
Goldberg
Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate rim brightening. Floral nuances on the nose, a hint of cranberries, underlaid with red heart cherries and mandarin zest, inviting bouquet. Juicy on the palate, delicate hints of cloves, sweet fruit, elegant and balanced, delicate caramel touch on the finish.
