DOMAINE MAISON JOSEPH BURRIER

The Burrier family has been one of the most important winegrowing families in southern Burgundy since the 15th century (1469) and is synonymous with excellent, terroir-driven top wines. Today, Frédéric-Marc Burrier runs the family business and acquired a stake in the Domaine de la Rochette in nearby Bussières in 2015. A place that Frédéric-Marc considers to be the ideal location for high-quality, terroir-driven Mâcon white wines.

As president of the local winegrowers' association, Frédéric-Marc was one of the leading proponents of classifying the best climates in the Pouilly-Fuissé region as Premier Crus. Since the mid-1990s, Frédéric has focused on identifying the best sites for each vineyard. Today, more than a dozen different Pouilly-Fuissés wines are produced, as well as wines from Mâcon, St-Véran, Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent.

There are wines that inspire even before the first sip, "Vers Cras" is one of them. Especially if you already know the wine, then the anticipation is actually always very large. A top wine that does not have to hide from the wines from the northern part of Burgundy, but costs a fraction of it.

In the glass, golden yellow with orange highlights, awakens the desire for more. If you then, best poured into the Burgundy glass, the nose is held for the first time in the glass. Jumps out a variety of aromas that inevitably puts a smile on your face.

Dusty lime, orange zest and exotic fruit, very intense. That's about the first impression of this great Pouilly-Fuisse. This continues powerfully, yet very well balanced on the palate. The chalky soils contribute to the fact that the terroir here clearly determines the characteristics of the wine. Exotic fruits paired with the unmistakable terroir aroma, plus very creamy and punchy. Great integrated wood caresses the wine downright. Mineral, creamy and beguiling, with a very broad and long finish.

It's really fun now with plenty of air, but it easily has potential for 10 or more years.
