WINERY IMVINI WETHU

A project of the heart. "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." Behind this motto is a unique cooperation of specialist retailers and sponsors who care deeply about South Africa as a wine country and who are supporting the crisis-ridden wine industry in the Cape with the specially created Imvini Wethu Cinsault Pinotage wine. The majority of the proceeds from the sale of this special red wine, which was produced by young winegrowers from old vines, will benefit the Cape Winemakers Guild's Protégé Program and the Old Vine Project.
This wine was born out of a pure longing for closeness and contact with our friends in a time of distancing and renunciation - it stands for trust, hope and anticipation for the time of togetherness, cooperation and reunion. Out of love for our friends and vines on the Cape.

Tasting note

IMVINI WETHU is a declaration of love to the country of South Africa, its people, its nature and its vines. This wine was born out of a pure longing for closeness and contact with our friends in a time of distancing and renunciation. This wine stands for trust, hope and the anticipation of a time of togetherness, cooperation and reunion. Out of love for our friends and vines at the Cape.

Andrea Mullineux and the protégés of the Cape Winemakers Guild are responsible for pressing and bottling the wine. Only fully ripe and healthy grapes were harvested by hand early in the morning in March 2019. Gentle crushing and destemming are followed by fermentation with natural yeasts for 8 to 12 days and an extended maceration to extract color, tannins and minerals from the berry skins. In the traditional open mash tanks, the oxygen ensured that the young tannins were linked together, stabilizing them. After gentle pressing of the mash, the wine matured for around 18 months in predominantly used barriques, where it underwent malolactic fermentation. Andrea Mullineux emphasized on the processing in the cellar: "winemaking is gentle and "hands-off" to let the vineyards shine through"!
