WINERY HEINRICH

Salzberg, Gabarinza, Alter Berg, Edelgraben - in the large individual vineyards of Gernot & Heike Heinrich, different worlds open up that nevertheless have a common goal: To explore potentials. The premises for this are cool limestone steep slopes on the Leithaberg and a modulated topography with a warmer climate around the Gols winery. Biodynamic cultivation, a handful of autochthonous grape varieties with Blaufränkisch as the spearhead and careful & thoughtful cellar work set the direction, handwork and craftsmanship pave the way, time takes it's course. All with the goal of authentic and individual wines in the bottle, which tell of their origin and yet leave room for their own interpretations.

Tasting note

This "natural wine" is certainly a flagship from the Biodynamic star winemaker Gernot Heinrich.

Natural wine in this case means that the Burgundy varieties Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay were fermented on the mash for 14 days (like red wine). Then gently pressed in a basket press and aged for 19 months in clay amphorae and used oak barrel on the fine lees. Bottled without filtration and therefore naturally cloudy.

A wine that speaks freely of color and does not allow itself to be pigeonholed. Colorful and aromatic, far from gray, Graue Freyheit rises like a morning dawn from the fog and promises a bright day. The bright extract of red berries and the gossamer spice of black tea create tension between autumnal depth and springtime carefree joie de vivre. Its body is compact, steely and full of precision. Tightened by vitalizing acidity, sturdy texture and persistent minerality, the Graue Freyheit leaves a stony finish with a cooling effect. It forms the gripping symbiosis of appearing powerful and sublime and at the same time floating soulfully as otherwise only a zeppelin can embody. It is the fascinating paradox of the attributes "barren" and "fruit-loving" forming a unity. Color-blind with pleasure. Shaking with pleasure.
