BALTHASAR RESS WINERY

In 1870, Balthasar Ress founded the family-run, organic VDP winery, now in its 5th generation. The Rieslings and Pinot Noirs produced through careful winemaking and a great deal of patience are the flagship of the winery, whose wines are now exported all over the world. The majority of these classified top vineyards are located in the Rheingau and stretch from Hattenheim to Assmannshausen. The winery also owns vineyards in Rheinhessen and the famous northernmost vineyard in Germany on Sylt. In 2009, the Ress family opened the wineBank Rheingau in their historic vaulted cellar, where wine lovers can store their best wines.

Rheingau wine region

The Rheingau wine region is one of the most famous and prestigious wine regions in Germany. It stretches along the Rhine between the cities of Wiesbaden and Rüdesheim. The Rheingau is characterized by a long tradition of viticulture, which dates back to the 11th century.

The climate in the Rheingau is characterized by the influence of the Rhine, which provides the vineyards with an optimal heat supply and a moderate climate. The steep slopes and partly loamy-sandy soils provide excellent conditions for the cultivation of the noble grape variety Riesling, which is considered the queen of white wines and plays the leading role in the Rheingau.

Wines from the Rheingau are known for their elegance, fine acid structure and mineral notes. Rieslings from this region are often described as fruity, citrus or peachy and can vary from dry to noble sweet. In addition to Riesling, Pinot Noir and several other grape varieties are grown, but the focus is on Riesling.
