WINERY VAN VOLXEM
The van Volxem winery , rich in tradition, is located in historic Wiltingen on the Saar River. It dates back to a Roman villa complex from the 3rd century AD, fragments of which can still be seen on the grounds today. It is one of the oldest steep-slope vineyards in existence.
For four generations, the Van Volxem family ran the winery in Wiltingen. It was not until 2000 that Roman Niewodniczanski - who comes from the family that owns the Bitburger brewery - took over the farm, restored it, and acquired more top vineyards. His vision: to restore the wines from the Saar to the reputation they once had. In addition, it was his private concern to build up his own business with the winery - independent of the beer-brewing family.
