UMATHUM, this is a winery entirely of the classic style: own vineyards, expertly and organically managed. The harvest of the grapes is done exclusively by hand.
In the cellar, the wine is given plenty of time to develop to its ideal maturity. Umathum's wines are very full of character and are considered to be extremely long-lived.
The work in the vineyard and cellar follows the rhythms of nature, focusing on a revitalized soil and rich biodiversity.
About 2/3 of the vineyard area is planted with red wine varieties, old varieties and selections that have adapted to climate and farming conditions over many decades are the main focus, alongside historic vines such as the "Lindenblättrige" and fungus-resistant vines.

The Burgundy of Austria! St. Laurent comes directly from Pinot Noir, the Blue Burgundy, and has adapted to the regional climate in eastern Austria over the centuries. The name St. Laurent goes back to Saint Laurent and is a reference to the variety's resistance to heat and drought. The name day of the Laurent, August 10th, is usually also one of the hottest summer days. The variety was probably selected several centuries ago, presumably by the Cistercian monks.
Sankt Laurent is susceptible to frost in the vineyard, sensitive in the blossom and susceptible to rot; cultivation is difficult and labor-intensive. The wines are also sensitive in the cellar. Due to these conditions, the area under vines covers only 5% of Austria's vineyards and is rarely cultivated internationally. Over the last few decades, our winery has selected its own vines of the St. Laurent variety that are genetically adapted to the region.
The taste of St. Laurent is always full of character and makes an excellent accompaniment to food.
