MARKOWITSCH WINERY

Experimentation, curiosity, spontaneity and a good dose of talent are the things that drive Gerhard Markowitsch to give his best every day. In his eyes, it is not possible to "plan" a wine. Because a great wine is created by factors that cannot be grasped or explained by humans. This realization fascinates the winemaker from Austria time and again and is his incentive to create the basis for such wines with hard physical work. The Markowitsch winery in Göttlesbrunn in Austria was still a mixed agricultural business until the early 1990s, when Gerhard Markowitsch gradually took over responsibility and made wine the main protagonist. He rebuilt the winery according to the most modern principles and increased production many times over in just a few years. Today, he is one of the best winemakers in the country and also enjoys a high international reputation.

Rosé wine

Rosé wine (short: rosé) is a type of wine that gets its characteristic pink color from the contact of the red grape skins with the grape must during fermentation. Unlike red wines, however, the skins are left in contact with the must for only a limited time, giving rosé wine its light to intense pink color.

Rosé wine can be produced in several ways. The most common methods are direct pressing and the saignée method. In the direct pressing method, the grapes are lightly pressed to extract the juice without prolonged maceration with the skins. In the saignée method, part of the must is extracted from already vinified red wines and fermented separately as rosé wine.

Rosé wine is often served well chilled and is excellent as a summer wine or as an accompaniment to lighter dishes such as salads, seafood, grilled vegetables or light pasta dishes. Its vibrant color and pleasant taste make rosé wine a popular choice for connoisseurs looking for a fresh and fruity wine.
