Werner Achs is a young winemaker with an incredible amount of power. He presented his first wines with the 1999 harvest, whereby he attracted attention with a Chardonnay, as his red wines were aged in barrels until the beginning of 2001. That was his last white wine, he focused on red wine and here he takes an extremely minimalist approach. Zweigelt Goldberg and XUR are produced every year (and highly decorated by Falstaff every year) and Werner Achs Reserve is only bottled in exceptional years.

It consists of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and St. Laurent and a touch of Merlot from the best sites around Gols. When you walk through the vineyards you can clearly see the handwriting of Werner Achs. The exact pruning of the leaves, the third row of leaves, and the exact pruning of the grapes are unmistakable. Furthermore, Werner Achs uses only the best wooden barrels from France, some with really "heavy - toasting" as one may only do with great wines. And all this has an effect. One of the greatest red wines of Austria - to measure only with international greats.
