WINERY POLZ

Already in the 4th generation, work is done here every day to bring their idea of excellence into the glass.
Erich Polz Jr. has been running the business since 2020 with the vision of guiding the fabulous potential and valuable know-how inherent in his family's long winemaking tradition into a fruitful, healthy future.
Erich's brother Christoph is responsible for cellar and vinification. With great confidence in each grape. Because the passion is called manual work. And the skill grows directly from the origin of southern Styria, its terroir.
Here, the emphasis is on sustainability. Whether it is gentle pruning, renunciation of insecticides and glyphosates or the conversion of our vineyards "to organic", which is already being implemented.

The Südsteiermark DAC Pinot Gris from the Polz winery is an outstanding representative of this grape variety from the renowned wine-growing region of southern Styria. The Polz winery, based in Straß in Styria, has built up an excellent reputation for producing high-quality wines.
Characteristics and taste: The Pinot Gris from the Polz winery presents itself in the glass with a medium straw yellow color, which indicates its elegance and maturity. A complex aroma profile unfolds on the nose, ranging from ripe pears to almonds and fine marzipan notes. On the palate, the wine is round and elegant, with a fine, lingering finish that underlines its quality.
Wine-growing region and terroir: The grapes for this wine come from the vineyards of southern Styria, in particular from the Grassnitzberg. The soils in this region are diverse and consist of a mixture of limestone, opok (a marly sedimentary rock), sand/sandstone and slate. This geological diversity gives the wine its characteristic minerality and complexity.
Vinification: The Polz winery uses traditional methods combined with modern cellar technology to produce this Pinot Gris. The wine is classified as a quality wine and is vinified dry. The alcohol content is typically around 13%, which gives it a pleasant fullness without being too heavy.
Ageing potential: The Südsteiermark DAC Pinot Gris from the Polz winery has considerable ageing potential. While it is already very appealing when young, it can develop further years after the harvest. Food recommendation: This versatile wine harmonizes excellently with various dishes. It is particularly recommended with pasta with a creamy mushroom sauce or paprika chicken. Its structure and elegance make it an ideal companion for creamy dishes and poultry with spicy notes.
Serving recommendation: To enjoy the full aromas of this Pinot Gris, we recommend serving it slightly chilled at a temperature of around 10-12°C. The wine comes with a practical screw cap, which preserves its freshness and makes it easy to handle
