WEINGUT OEKONOMIERAT JOHANN GEIL I. ERBEN GbR
In 1871, Georg Geil, Johann Geil's father, bought the ancestral home near the former village boundary, laying the foundations for the Geil family's wine tradition in Bechtheim.
His son Johann Geil, who later gave his name to the winery, was ten years old when he planted a chestnut tree in the garden which still towers over the estate with its mighty arms.
It was Johann Geil who was one of the first to bottle wine in Bechtheim.
He not only showed foresight and entrepreneurial spirit when it came to wine, he was also a co-founder of the Raiffeisenbank and the Warengenossenschaft and was mayor of Bechtheim for many years.
Due to his special and multifaceted commitment to the citizens and the community of Bechtheim, he was awarded the honorary title of Oekonomierat by the Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine. The winery has borne his name ever since!
